Today so many things distract drivers. People are messing with their radio and mp3 players, playing with gadgets on their dashboard, and talking on cell phones. According to the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, driving is a full-time job. They found that 94% of drivers admitted that they have engaged in distracting activities while driving. Such distractions include messing with the radio, eating, and tending to their kids. They also found that 39% of the activities that were a distraction were while drivers were working. Another shocking statistic is that between 25-50% of accidents occur as a result of distracted drivers.

Automakers are adding more and more gadgets and entertainment systems to newer cars. This means that drivers are going to be even more distracted while they are driving. Drivers will be paying attention to mp3 players, DVDs, and navigation systems. The most important thing for a driver to do in order to protect themselves against distracted drivers is to avoid them whenever possible. Also, drivers should sign up with a road service program in the event that they get into an accident. The last thing any driver wants is to end up stranded on the side of the road somewhere due to someone else’s faults.
